| Who Are We and What Do We Do? The La Center Music Association was formed in 1984 by a dedicated group of parents. The goal was to help provide equipment, uniforms and money for trips to music festivals and performance opportunities; primarily at the High School level. La Center School District enrollment increased so did the needs in our music departments. In 2004 we decided to expand our efforts to increase more support at the middle school and elementary school levels. This move challenged us to step up our fundraising and actively seek more volunteers—We are grateful for the parents and community members who have generously offered their support. Thank you! During the 2007-2008 school year the Music Association again sponsored the Holiday Village Bazaar at the High School, managed concessions during high school girl's basketball and volleyball games, as well as boys soccer games in the spring. We also continued to sell our delicious cookies at concerts! Funds from these events helped purchase tubas for the middle school band, a drum kit for the middle school choir, a xylophone for the elementary school, and paid for all end-of-the-year awards for the high school music students as well as a great BBQ for over 200 parents, family and students. Thanks to the Constance Cerveny Foundation, we were able to award two $500 scholarships to Senior high school music students who are continuing their education. As an association, we awarded four $200.00 scholarships to current middle school and high school music students, for music lessons or music camp. As our community grows, so do the needs of our music teachers. The La Center Music Association is committed, to continue our support of the director's needs in the classroom. We encourage and invite you to be a part of this hardworking, and dedicated group! Music cleanses the understanding; inspires it, and lifts it into a realm which it would not reach if it were left to itself. ~Henry Ward Beecher |
